052: Social Media: A Tool for Self-Discovery
Have you seen the beautiful pictures John is posting from his travels?
Oh no, I am taking a break from social media.
Oh... okay!
It's very common to see people needing a detox or taking a break from social media. While this approach can be beneficial for some, I've found that my relationship with social media, particularly Instagram, is quite different and surprisingly positive.
And it led me to pause and reflect on what social media truly represents.
I realized that, like everything else, it is simply a reflection of our consciousness and an incredible tool for self-awareness.
I was reflecting the other day and realized I've never felt the need to "take a break from social media."
The reason is that I maintain a good balance and am intentional about how I interact with this tool. This led me to delve deeper into understanding why so many people feel the need for breaks or detoxes.
The first thing that came to my mind was, do you need a break from social media, or are you needing a break from the feeling of incapacity to control yourself? It's a powerful thought that, if you are willing to face, can reveal many patterns in this black-and-white way of being.
Perhaps social media is serving as a distraction from the tasks you need to accomplish, much like other aspects of your life. When you can't control yourself, you might choose to eliminate it entirely, similar to following a strict diet where you cut out all the foods you enjoy. The issue with this approach is that it's a short-term solution.
By removing something as if it were the problem, you avoid doing the inner work to address your addictions and lack of control.
Eventually, when you reintroduce it into your life, you may trigger the same pattern again. So you haven't really shifted your energy within; you just "changed the outer world" to have a break from yourself. And if it's not with social media, believe me, life will show that pattern to you again as an opportunity for the inner work you have to do.
The other thing that came to my mind was about when I hear people complain about how others post on social media as if their lives are perfect. While I believe there's perfection in the imperfection, it's clear to me that social media might be highlighting things you desire for yourself but feel unable to manifest.
We separate ourselves from what we desire or label it as wrong to avoid confronting the frustration of not knowing how to build the life we dream of. I choose to view these posts of others' achievements as inspiration for what I want to experience too and I constantly celebrate success in others.
This is an opportunity to reflect on your internal beliefs and confront any limitations you may have. While it might be uncomfortable, embracing this discomfort can lead to personal growth. Instead of avoiding frustration by blaming external factors, use it as a chance to explore the true source of your feelings and work on transforming them.
Ultimately, it's not about others' experiences but your own when you see people being successful and authentic. If you desire that for yourself, why push it away?
So, like anything else, I view social media as a valuable opportunity to confront your own frustrations. Instead of deleting, taking a break, or detoxing to avoid feeling frustrated, use it to identify the parts of yourself that resist doing the work needed to enhance your life experience in all areas—relationships, business, money, health, your body and more.
For me, Instagram is an amazing tool that I use as a sacred practice to embody consistency. Although I'm not perfect, posting on our Sacred Business Flow Instagram account allows me to channel energy towards my vision each week. We don't use social media as a strategy for gaining clients, so we're not focused on gathering followers right now. Instead, it's a tool for me to practice personal power, confidence, and self-expression.
I often encounter resistance and fear, and I can clearly see my own limitations, which I could easily avoid since it's not part of our business strategy. However, I choose to stay and find ways to have fun and discover parts of myself that I wouldn't otherwise. It has helped me find my own voice and the willpower to keep moving forward, even during hard times.
I've learned that I do what I do for myself, and if I were doing it for others, I would have given up long ago. This realization is significant for my own evolution. I freed up so much creative energy when I released the need to say what "others" want to hear.
So I keep posting and keep noticing how I feel when I share some personal quotes. I sometimes check our feed just to feel proud of myself, that I chose to do the work even when nobody is watching me.
This gives me a huge sense of freedom.
I use social media to exercise my self-control, consistency, and self-expression, and my feed is pure joy!
I don't open my account first thing in the morning because I have my own rituals that I find more useful for myself. However, when I open my feed, I see so many beautiful and inspiring quotes, gorgeous doodles, and illustrations from amazing artists. I see people in beautiful locations working and having fun, and I feel inspired by amazing music that I often add to my Spotify account. I see gorgeous places around the world that I add to my list of places to visit.
In my opinion, as with everything else in life, it's not about being bad or good; it's what you do that counts. This interaction provided by tools like Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn is an amazing opportunity to see your own patterns.
Why not use that for your own benefit? Of course, you need to be willing to do the work of transformation. We can't allow social media to be bigger than ourselves. Chances are, you are allowing many other things to have power over you just because you keep trying to avoid certain feelings.

Happenings
We are excited to share some news that aligns perfectly with our mission of supporting entrepreneurs in creating their Sacred Business. Carolina and I have just completed a new course on Udemy called "Mastering Productivity: Daily Reviews Using AI-Powered Voice".
This course is a natural extension of the daily review process we use to stay in sync and maintain our strong partnership, which I shared with you recently. We've taken that concept and expanded it, integrating cutting-edge AI technology to make the process even more powerful and efficient.
In the spirit of our belief that everything is connected, we've created this course to help you enhance your productivity while staying deeply connected to your purpose and vision. It's designed to help you cultivate the kind of clarity, confidence, and discipline that are essential aspects of the Sacred Business Harmony Map™.
This is your opportunity to learn our exact process for creating a daily review, so you can stay focused on your Sacred Work, overcome resistance, and make consistent progress towards your goals. It's about creating a ritual that keeps you connected to your inner guidance that's always available to you.
Remember, as we often say, your business is a sacred act of co-creation. This course is designed to help you show up for that co-creation every single day, with intention and purpose.
Who We Are Celebrating: Stephen Claybrook
This week we are celebrating Sacred Growth Club member, Stephen Claybrook.
He's an incredibly talented musician from North Carolina who has been leaning into working with his resistance to marketing and activities outside of creating his art that he knows will help bring his music forward in the world.
He's also been a beautiful presence inside the community, encouraging others and even sharing a song within the community based on his experience. I hoped to share it here, but am choosing not to due to copyright concerns. Instead, I'll share an awesome music video from his Youtube Channel:
Here is What I Want to Share This Week:
